  2. Sorry, I didn't mean the post to signify any political allegiance. Sometimes I just post news articles that I think readers of this blog would want to read and reflect on.

  3. In my naivete, I never fail to be both surprised and amused at the relative shallowness of (much of) this "jumping ship" stuff. Mr. Blair becomes (and is welcomed as a) Catholic, despite his complicity with the USA in the Iraq invasion and occupation -- in direct disregard of and clash with two popes' expressed "opinion" that this was not a warranted of "justified" war! And yet all the Cardinal says is that the service it was "moving." There is no mention of penance, repentance, a change in his "my way" philosophy, or anything that might reasonably be expected of "converts." And that doesn't even begin to address the issue of Mr. Blair's "abortion" policies.

The subtext seems to be that His Eminence is smitten and proud that he's caged such a prominent prize. (That is probably a violation of the commandment against false witness, but it is an honest expression of how the matter seems to me.)

This seems to me to clear evidence that, protestations to the contrary, Rome is not immune to denominational self-identification -- and it's seeming outgrowth, flock-stealing.

I'm not exactly sure why this riles me quite so much, but it surely does.

    Dwight
