A Call to US Lutherans from LWR CEO John Nunes
Lutherans have a long history of serving those most in need throughout the world. And during these difficult economic times in the United Sates, I am humbled by the generosity of U.S. Lutherans who remain committed to this legacy.

Each day, Lutherans put their faith into action by supporting critical development assistance for poor communities abroad. The life-saving programs you sustain through LWR have immeasurable impacts on our brothers and sisters struggling to overcome poverty. Your investments do nothing less than allow human dignity to flourish and self-sufficiency to take hold.
This week, our political leaders are taking on the challenging task of prioritizing government budgets and programs. It is critical that our leaders in Congress hear how you value development programs for poor communities.
At less than one percent of the total national budget, global development assistance is one of the best investments our country can make. Through modest and strategic development assistance, the U.S. puts the values Lutherans embody into action: Accompaniment, Sustainability, Sufficiency, Mercy and Human Dignity.
I ask you to contact your members of Congress today. Share with them the value you place on foreign assistance and ask that they continue to invest in the wellbeing of vulnerable communities.
I thank you for acting on behalf of your brothers and sisters abroad.
In Christ,
John A. Nunes
President and CEO
